THROUGH MY EYES

I WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS SECTION TO THE PERSON WHO INSPIRED THE THOUGHT OF IT. SOMEONE WHO IS GENTLE AND SWEET, ENCHANTING ME WITH HIS HUMOR, THANK YOU LOVE.

ALL OF THE PICTURES YOU SEE IN THIS SECTION ARE ONES THAT I HAVE TAKEN THROUGH THE YEARS. IN LOOKING BACK, THESE HAVE INSPIRED CERTAIN MEMORIES THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE. AND EVENTUALLY I WILL WRITE SOMETHING FOR EACH ONE YOU SEE.

THE WORLD THROUGH MY EYES
As I sit looking through old photos, I realize that these scenes depict the world through my eyes, flashes of my life, a moment in time captured on one small paper. Studying each one, I carefully recall the image, the emotions, and all the memories of what had been, once upon a time. Odd how we take so many pictures in our lives, the bulk of which remain stored away, not important enough to display, and still too precious to discard. They bring back certain feelings, the essence of an era, the comfort of faces long gone from us now. They show us what used to be, and what has become dear to us for a photo engages the mind to remember, to relive, and to feel anew, that which will never be experienced again. Photos not only take us to a place in time, but they are also a diary of sorts, one tends to not only remember that which is pictured, but also of the events leading up to it, and those which followed.
A picture can capture the eyes of a child full of wonder and surprise. And as we grow into young adults, pictures show us a world that looks so tempting and promising. In early adult years, we are pictured in the midst of comradery and newfound independence, a time of new beginnings and of building on those experiences that shape our future. In the prime of our years, we often look back and reflect, this is the time when too often, we think of what would have been, if only we had known. And the pictures let us rediscover what was good about our inexperience with life, in love, and fate. Now standing in the midst of our destiny, we wonder what will be, almost as if we are young once again.
As I look again at the world through my eyes, I realize how much my thoughts have changed over the years, how the world has changed from the way I had seen it years ago and how I view it now. One thing that these pictures teach me, is that one is never too old to dream, and never to old to feel young again, and that the changing of the world matters little, but that it is the change within me that matters most. Though the world seems so distant at times, a far off place to be discovered in each breath I take, knowing that as I exhale, I leave a bit of myself in that place and time captured in a mere second on a small piece of paper. Even though no one will know I was there, it is those breaths that I will remember when I look back at a place frozen in time. Pictures that will take me back once again to a place I loved, to a memory of what was good about life. Then once again I will see the world "through my eyes."

CARRY ME HOME
Carry me home, in the soft falling snow
Let the horses find their way, as a cold wind blows
In the silence of my mind, let me rest there for a time
Let me find you in my thoughts of yesterday
And as the world fades away, I can almost hear you say
That a memory would always bring you home
And quietly I find, my heart waiting for a sign
How I wish that it were still, yesterday

MEMORIES OF THE SOUL
As I sit here in the darkness, between midnight and the dawn
My thoughts are of another, someone I've not known long
And yet he stirs a wonder, something deep inside of me
For I do not understand it, this enchantment befallen me
And so I light the candle, and I pour a glass of wine
With each sip I wonder, was it somewhere back in time
And as I gaze upon the flame, his hazel eyes I see
Soft and sweet as midnight light, and waters that run deep
As I tip the glass I listen, to the memories from within
A time that was of long ago, before I knew of him
I hear his voice within the night, as he whispers once again
And I feel the rhythm of my soul, that answers back to him

MY SOUL COMPANION
I would like to introduce everyone to Cindrae, my forever companion and close confidant. Her mother was a stray barn cat, starved and wary that I found one morning in our barn. It took awhile to befriend her and we became mutually respectful of each other. She had extremely sharp claws, and I had extremely long patience with her. In the end I gained her friendship, more so than I had expected for in time she became a permanent fixture. When the time came that it was apparent she would have a litter of kittens I kept a close watch on her, making sure she had extra food and a warm place to raise them. It was on a cold and rainy Beltane that I remember well. For as I fed my dogs, Jezebel, as I had fondly named her, came from the barn with what looked like a mouse in her mouth. And as she laid it at my feet, I gasp to realize, it was a small, newly born kitten. And there sat Jezebel, staring calmly up at me. As she turned to leave I panicked for a moment, "surely she would not leave this little one still wet and only minutes old?" so I picked up the small and crying kitten and followed her, finding she had two others that were dry and happy snuggled deep in the straw. It was then I realized, she had not left the kitten, she had given it to me, as a gift, perhaps for the kindness I had shown her though I will never be sure as to just why she had done this. I left the kitten with the other two, and from that day on Jezebel raised them well, but Cindrae was mine.
That was five years ago, Jezebel has since passed away but her legacy lives on in Cindrae. She is so much a part of my soul, she is one of those animals that seem more human than animal in nature and she understands far more than any cat I have owned. We spend many hours together, and often we walk in silence with each other.
Look closely sometime; you might catch a glimpse of a someone walking down the road at dusk. And if you look closer still, you will see the small figure carried upon their shoulder. It is I labrys, and my forever companion Cindrae.
We bid you well friends.
