MEMORIES OF THE SOUL
As I sit here in the darkness, between midnight and the dawn
My thoughts are of another, someone I've not known long
And yet he stirs a wonder, something deep inside of me
For I do not understand it, this enchantment befallen me
And so I light the candle, and I pour a glass of wine
With each sip I wonder, was it somewhere back in time
And as I gaze upon the flame, his hazel eyes I see
Soft and sweet as midnight light, and waters that run deep
As I tip the glass I listen, to the memories from within
A time that was of long ago, before I knew of him
I hear his voice within the night, as he whispers once again
And I feel the rhythm of my soul, that answers back to him

MY SOUL COMPANION
I would like to introduce everyone to Cindrae, my forever companion and close confidant. Her mother was a stray barn cat, starved and wary that I found one morning in our barn. It took awhile to befriend her and we became mutually respectful of each other. She had extremely sharp claws, and I had extremely long patience with her. In the end I gained her friendship, more so than I had expected for in time she became a permanent fixture. When the time came that it was apparent she would have a litter of kittens I kept a close watch on her, making sure she had extra food and a warm place to raise them.
It was on a cold and rainy Beltane that I remember well. For as I fed my dogs, Jezebel, as I had fondly named her, came from the barn with what looked like a mouse in her mouth. And as she laid it at my feet, I gasp to realize, it was a small, newly born kitten. And there sat Jezebel, staring calmly up at me. As she turned to leave I panicked for a moment, "surely she would not leave this little one still wet and only minutes old?" so I picked up the small and crying kitten and followed her, finding she had two others that were dry and happy snuggled deep in the straw. It was then I realized, she had not left the kitten, she had given it to me, as a gift, perhaps for the kindness I had shown her though I will never be sure as to just why she had done this. I left the kitten with the other two, and from that day on Jezebel raised them well, but Cindrae was mine.
That was five years ago, Jezebel has since passed away but her legacy lives on in Cindrae. She is so much a part of my soul, she is one of those animals that seem more human than animal in nature and she understands far more than any cat I have owned. We spend many hours together, and often we walk in silence with each other.
Look closely sometime; you might catch a glimpse of a someone walking down the road at dusk. And if you look closer still, you will see the small figure carried upon their shoulder. It is I labrys, and my forever companion Cindrae.
We bid you well friends.
